One common concern people have when thinking about raising backyard chickens is the cost. Of course, you can feed your chickens table scraps, but you’re going to have to buy lots of chicken feed. Chicken feed typically sells for $1 or more per pound, and since chickens eat 1/3 of a pound a day or more, that means it costs at least 33 cents a day to feed a chicken. As you can see, keeping lots of chickens can get expensive. So what can you do to keep costs down?

How does he do it? Several ways. He culls unproductive chickens, he carefully rations their food, he feeds them lots of scraps, and he buys whole grains and legumes in bulk. Watch the video below for more information.
