Since this site is brand new, I’m going to spend the first few months focusing on information for brand new homesteaders and people thinking about homesteading. The thing about most homestead articles and videos is they tend to focus on all the good stuff: fresh produce, canned food, pretty barns, cute animals, lovely countrysides, and so forth.
When people have a beautiful image of homesteading in their heads, once they go and do it they’re often disgusted and disillusioned when they find out how difficult and dirty it actually is. This is especially true if you want to raise animals such as chickens, pigs, and goats.
In this video, Tara from Appalachia’s Homestead talks about the kind of work she has to do keeping her barn clean. This will give you just a glimpse of what homesteading is really like and some thoughts from a woman with years of experience. Watch it below.
