Having a milk cow is a wonderful thing. You can get fresh delicious milk and use it to make butter, cheese, yogurt, and other delicious foods. The problem is, getting milk from your cow won’t be easy if she doesn’t like you.
When my father bought himself an old Holstein cow (back when I was in college), he had a heck of a time milking her. She would kick over the milk bucket and move around constantly. Getting milk was a lot more work than he expected, but that’s because she didn’t trust him yet.
He spent more time with her (her name was Belle), brushing her and talking to her, and eventually she got so comfortable with him that she would walk right up to the barn when she saw him with a bucket.
Of course, there’s a little more to it than that, but in this video by Appalachia’s Homestead, Patara explains what you need to do to make your milk cow love you.
