How to Cut Your Chicken Feed Bill by 25%I’ve known people who got backyard chickens just to save money. They wanted to be able to eat eggs every day without buying several dozen eggs a week, but they soon realized they were just spending that money on chicken feed and other supplies instead.

That’s why saving money should not be your primary motivation when getting chickens. Your motivation should be healthier eggs, a more sustainable lifestyle, a love of animals and nature, and so forth.

However, even with such high-minded motivations, money is certainly still a concern. You want to keep your chickens fed and healthy for as little money as possible. In this video, Justin Rhodes explains how to cut your chicken feed bill by 25%.

So what’s his secret? Just one thing: Soak the chicken feed in water overnight. Yes, that’s it. Why does this work? Because the water breaks down the feed and makes it easier for the chickens to digest. Therefore, the chickens get more nutrition out of less food.
